Red Wine Success

Sean Lennon is not impressed with the current state of the music scene, insisting "rock and roll is dead". He feels the genre has lost its relevance in modern-day music, but admits he is happy to follow in the footsteps of his dad and isn't out to be a "pioneer". He says: "I mean rock 'n roll is already kind of played out. I wouldn't even be doing it if my mission was to be a pioneer. I'm only worried about creating beautiful songs and not to reinvent songwriting. Pop music and rock 'n roll, it's not such a vital art form anymore in the way that it was in the '60s." Maybe he didn't search deep enough.

Mischa Barton has vowed to remain single until she finds a more "mature" boyfriend. She says: "I'd like someone who makes me laugh. I like an intellectual guy, because I love to read. If they like movies, books and music, we're pretty alright. And I'd like someone who's mature; God, I can't take another immature person!" To balance the yin and yang? [MB-SingleVow]

Russell Crowe has written a gushing tribute to his young sons - which he will bury in a time capsule. The actor has expressed his love for Charlie and Tennyson in an emotional note which he plans to bury in a capsule for 25 years. Crowe writes: "Our lives have been blessed by you. Whatever comes along, I will always love you with my whole being and soul." His note urges them to always take care of their mum, Danielle Spencer. He says: "I know I will have brought you up to love your mother above all. My hope is that you find the things, people and love that bring you joy. Every day of my life is better because I am a father." Respect.

Hilary Duff to throw in the towel at this stage? The actress-and-singer is thinking of quitting showbiz due to being drained by constant touring and promotional work. Hilary told Stella mag: "I go get stressed out and I do get sad sometimes about the constant work. When I travel a lot usually I'm just so tired that I just want to go to my hotel room and sleep. After a couple of months you think, 'Why do I do this?'" She is keen to become a "serious actress" but is frustrated that most directors can't see past her child star image. She said: "I know people look at me and think I'm just so mainstream, 'She's just a blonde, young girl.' But I want to be really artistic." John Cusack has cast Hilary as a pop star in his new political satire 'War, Inc' where she plays a 'slutty, oversexed, bitch.' There you go.

According to a report released today by The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) global sales of CD's fell far more than expected in 2006. It had been hoped that the rise in digital music sales would offset the sharp decline but this has not been the case. The IFPI report shows that sales of CD's fell from 1.9m in 2005 to 1.7 million last year. Chairman John Kennedy said: "While digital sales have grown as expected, physical sales have fallen by more than expected. Unfortunately this trend has continued this year. Physical sales continue to drop at a faster pace than we hoped for." Kenndey added that digital sales look set to grow by another 50% this year alone. The report does not include illegal downloads, but it's understood that globally there are twenty illegal downloads for every legal download.
