Topboy

Johnny Depp is desperately trying to give up his smoking habit for the sake of his children. The star rolls his own Bali Shag cigarettes and has been forced to drastically cut back the amount he smokes - and now he's trying to give up altogether. He says, "I'm not far away from quitting. I've cut down quite heavily ... It's such a dumb addiction. And with the kiddies, man, just being a parent - you start worrying 10 years ahead of the curve." Hope he doesn't lose the scruffy grunge outlook after ending the addiction. I would imagine Depp behaving just like Shane Powers [thinking chair, wooden blackberry pda] if he's stuck on Panama islands.

Denaun Porter (Kon Artis) of D12, says the group will continue to make music, including a D12 album that's in the works. Nice to see that they stayed strong even after the recent sad tragedy with one group member.

Thom Yorke Solo Album[link]...July 11... wooo! Radiohead will resume work on the next album after the tour and it will be released sometime next year. Speaking of which, Ms Heather [link] has three new Radiohead songs. Here's some pics [link] from Radiohead's performance at Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam last Tuesday (May 9).

Geri Halliwell gave birth on Sunday, May 14th to a baby girl via Caesarean section at London's Portland Hospital. A hospital source said, "The birth went well. Mother and daughter are doing fine." Her mum Anna Maria was present at the birth but not the baby's father. Geri told Hello! mag she was set on being a disciplinarian mother and if she had a girl, she would like to name her Stella. That's a nice name. And how fitting.. on Mother's Day itself.

Happy Mothers Day: Celebrities And Their Mothers (May 14th 2006)

Ashlee Simpson blames her stint at ballet school for her pre-teen anorexia - as it was "all about image and weight" at an especially self-conscious age for young girls. She admits her family were shocked when they saw how thin she had become at NYC School Of American Ballet. Ashlee says, "That was a brief thing. As soon as my mom saw me she was like, 'We are going to eat steak and French fries!' It's all about image and weight and you're talking about it all day. But it's not anything I worry about anymore." Good that she has seen the light and will not likely to disappear into dust ala Nicole Richie, who was recently banned from appearing in Cosmo Aussie mag for being a human-goal post.

Here we go again... Cheryl Tweedy claims Charlotte Church is scared of her. These two pop stars have been locked in a bitter war of words since last summer when Cheryl accused Char of stealing G.A's sounds. However, Cheryl claims Char was too frightened to say anything to her when the pair recently came face-to-face. She told GQ magazine: "She didn't say anything to me. I think she was frightened. She shouldn't be so mouthy then, should she? If she's going to be mouthy, back your mouth up and we'll have a conversation face to face." Was it coz Gavin was around that time and Char don't want to embarrass him? Still awaiting for MTV Deathmatch to feature these two chicks and their rugger, footie partners. I reckon it will go to extra time..

Daniel has some tracks [link] from the wonderful trio, The Pipettes. Not surprising that their popularity has grown immensely these past few weeks. I'm just delighted to have discovered them earlier back in Nov '05 and spinning their music in good amounts of rotation. Their debut album will be out on July 17th.

Editors feature in June edition of Zero mag. [link]

The Infadels is an electro rock band [myspace] that I can't stop listening to. There are shades of early Depeche, Duran2, Human League but they have an extra special quality which should have the indie dancefloor boogying very soon. My fav song would be 'Murder That Sound'. The first time I saw the song title 'Love Like Semtex' [vid], I thought it was a cover from the underrated Rialto. It wasn't.

Incredible mash-up >> Ordinary Boys vs Lady Sovereign - 9-5 video[link] is quite a joy to watch.

Interesting Tom Meighan quotes:
On Ian Brown - "He's gravy and chips man"
On Kasabian's Genre - "Ectoplasm Rock"
On Oasis - "Church for Christians"

Noel G is not happy with lil bro. Why is that so? Well... he claims Liam spends all his time during their recent world tour in Australia enjoying himself while the other band members do all the hard work. Noel says: "Everyone'll be able to see it on the film soon enough. We ended up doing all these press conferences and Liam's not bloody there. You can see him on a speedboat, swanning around Sydney and eating oysters while we're working like mugs." Maybe Liam is just showing the Aussies the importance of being...

There will not be a new Oasis single anytime soon. They are taking a year off music after their latest songs failed to please the band. Plans for an EP release this summer has been shelved because Noel G is convinced the tracks - including the eagerly-anticipated The Boys with the Blues, penned by Liam - aren't good enough. The band insist a well-earned rest is the only way to rejuvenate their spirits. Noel says: "We had a couple of tracks left over from the last record and in our own heads we thought they were good enough to be released as an EP. We went back and listened to the tapes and we reckon we can get it better, so we're having the year off instead." Think they deserve a break. Get off the bandwagon put down the handbook, enjoy the summer of footie..
