Flames Go Higher
Morrissey has hinted he doesn't think much of Bono's songwriting talents. U2 were recently hailed for creating the best pop lyric, when the line, "One life, with each other, sisters, brothers," from song 'One', beat off competition from The Smiths' classic How Soon Is Now?, which came second in the poll. But speaking at his Manchester gig on Tuesday night, a bemused Morrissey cast doubt on the result. He quipped: "I noticed in the newspapers that in a lyrical competition Bono did better than me. He's really nice, but really?" Well... Bono has been 'marketing' himself worldwide, so it is only natural that the accolade goes to him. In terms of musical genius alone, the english born legend definitely shades it.
How has this week been for the spoilt heiress Paris Hilton? Interestingly, she has been banned from her own casino and ordered into gambling rehab. Her parents have barred her from playing in their Paris Hotel and Casino, which was named after her, after she gambled away her $180,000 Bentley car. Paris has agreed to stay away from the city's famous strip of casinos but has now reportedly taken up internet gambling to get her thrills. Haha..

This summer, Paris Hilton will be showing up on mobile video screens. A deal has been has inked with Paris-based cell phone game publisher Gameloft to use her likeness in a series of video games. "My phone has become an all-in-one entertainment device and mobile games are an integral part of that," she said in a statement. "Mobile gaming is really hot right now and I'm excited to be part of this project." Gameloft has not revealed details of the game in which Hilton's likeness will appear but said it is one of the simpler titles that includes puzzles and card games. Will most probably be seen in some jigsaw puzzles or memory games with her face splashed all over.

Dannii Minogue's eagerly anticipated follow-up to the successful Neon Nights has been, umm well I suppose cast aside for the moment, nothing has been mentioned, except that her brand new album is "Greatest Hits". With original tracks licensed from Universal and Warner Music, AATW and Dannii have put together a 21 Track album, featuring 6 Brand New Songs together with a DVD featuring the videos. The Greatest Hits - it's hoped will show the world who Dannii Minogue is, reminding them of all her classic hits and also her funky brand new tracks, which will then create a momentum for her brand new studio album probably in 2007, if not before. May be a good way to showcase what she is all about.

Benny Benassi - Who's Your Daddy?
The Vines - Don't Listen To The Radio
Benny the Euro House DJ from Italy has been around for about 3-4 years. Was hooked on his incredible dance music ever since 'Satisfaction' back in '03. Yeah. That video with girls holding power tools drilling on wood.. Now comes a new single which might be a little disappointing but of course like all good DJs, there is always a magical touch to keep the audience hooked. As usual, sensual ladies are essential in a Benassi vid. DLTTR is definitely a grower after watching its music video. Everywhere I go, people asked whether I've heard the new stuff from the Aussie band. Any sane indie rock fan will keep track of them. Glad that The Vines are back to entertain. Now where the hell is Pelle Almqvist..
The Futureheads + Art Brut = The Young Knives?
A new power pack group has been making me all excited. This trio makes music that must be appreciated for incorporating a fun element. Check out their cool video for "Weekends and Bleak Days". Musicisnotdead has two demo tracks to offer. The Young Knives are to tour the UK in June following their support slot for the Rakes in May.

It seems supermodel Kate Moss has finally seen sense and given up on Pete. Katy has bagged herself a man who washes and has teeth which are lighter than his face. Her new fella happens to be a multi-millionaire financier. Not bad. She has reportedly fallen for a rich Israeli tycoon Vivi Nevo who other then being best friends with Madonna part owns the American entertainment firm Time Warner. Nevo recently romanced Moss with a dinner on the top of the Empire State Building. A source told the Daily Star: "Kate's mum Linda says Vivi is a breath of fresh air." Time for her to move on. But she's definitely not given up on helping that guy with the pork pie hat..
Pete Doherty is apparently planning a Johnny Cash style prison gig at his former home Pentonville jail. He is reportedly in talks with the governor of the London prison to play although he may be back there for real if he is found guilty. A friend of Doherty said: "Pete knows the staff and inmates from his stays and thinks it will be good for prison morale. He loves the idea of making it into a prison tour and recording the shows." Wonder if his reggae buddy, The General, would be making an appearance as well.
Elizabeth Hurley has revealed she is planning on living part time in India as soon as she is married. There have been rumours that the couple are currently planning their wedding, something Hurley has previously denied. According to The Mirror, Hurley said: "When we do get married, I am sure India would become my second home." "We get on brilliantly and spend a great deal of time with each other's families. I feel very lucky that I met him." He must be better then the sullen Hugh Grant..surely?
Everybody has experienced a sense of "losing oneself" in an activity - being totally absorbed in a task, a movie or sex. Now researchers have caught the brain in the act. Self-awareness, regarded as a key element of being human, is switched off when the brain needs to concentrate hard on a tricky task. A team of neurobiologists conducted a series of experiments to pinpoint the brain activity associated with introspection and that linked to sensory function. They found that the brain assumes a robotic functionality when it has to concentrate all its efforts on a difficult, timed task - only becoming "human" again when it has the luxury of time.
Ilan Goldberg and colleagues used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to scan the brains of nine volunteers during the study. Participants were shown picture cards and told to push buttons to indicate whether or not an animal was depicted. The series was shown slowly the first time, and at three times the rate on the second run through. On its third showing, the volunteers were asked to use the buttons to indicate their emotional response to the pictures. The experiment was then repeated using musical extracts, rather than pictures, and asked to identify whether a trumpet played. Goldberg found that when the sensory stimulus was shown slowly, and when a personal emotional response was required, the volunteers showed activity in the superfrontal gyrus - the brain region associated with self-awareness-related function. But when the card flipping and musical sequences were rapid, there was no activity in the superfrontal gyrus, despite activity in the sensory cortex and related structures.
"The regions of the brain involved in introspection and sensory perception are completely segregated, although well connected," says Goldberg, "and when the brain needs to divert all its resources to carry out a difficult task, the self-related cortex is inhibited." The brain's ability to "switch off" the self may have evolved as a protective mechanism, he suggests. "If there is a sudden danger, such as the appearance of a snake, it is not helpful to stand around wondering how one feels about the situation," Goldberg points out.
