Gold Lion

The Spice mum-to-be looks more beautiful than ever in the latest issue of Hello magazine [cover / white dress], where Geri talks about her happy (and unplanned) pregnancy. Geri has revealed she will call her baby Stella if it is a girl and Leonardo if it is a boy. Speaking about her pregnancy for the first time, she said the baby had her own "turned up nose already" and said the first scans showed "something that looks more like a potato than a little person", adding: "I thought that I was carrying Potato Halliwell." Still looks fantastic as ever.

Ashlee Simpson can't sing... according to her ex-vocal coach Linda Septien. She's vocally alright.

The Real Life Simpsons

Cool ain't it? Will it better if they bring a simple gal into the show? Paris Hilton may be making a guest appearance in The Simpsons. Creator of the show Matt Groening is reportedly desperate to get Hilton on board. Matt confirms, "Her name is on the list. It could be a good show." Will be interesting to see whether Homer invites her for some Duff drinking session or drench her with the beer; unimpressed with her flirting skills..

Burning Questions about the Academy Awards

Is Nicole Kidman getting married?
It looks that way. Since last fall, Nic has been wearing a h-u-g-e diamond. There's been talk of a wedding later this month. But what seals the deal for me is their public appearances. In February, she went with him to the Grammys. Last night, he was her date for the Oscars. Though they skipped the red carpet at the Academy Awards, they sat together and then hit the parties together. It must be love.

Is Charlize Theron still with Stuart Townsend?
Maybe, but I predict trouble in paradise. Although they have been a steady Hollywood couple for years, I think there's something going on with Stuart Townsend and Charlize Theron. It's suspicious that he's been absent from every award show this year. (And for those of you who are going to tell me "He's working," I don't buy it. He's working every Sunday night in 2006? No way. If he wanted to be there, he would.) Stuart has always escorted his pretty gal pal on the red carpet -- always, always, always. So it's rather strange that he hasn't been around at all this year.

Why were Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves holding hands on the red carpet?
One word: publicity. The Speed costars have a new movie coming out in June called The Lake House. Not to mention that they're friends, having kept in touch all these years. Additionally, Sandra and her husband, Jesse James, aren't big on the red carpet PDA photo ops. So Sandy walked the carpet with Keanu, then met Jesse later at the Vanity Fair party.

Guess what? The Strokes have began writing songs for their fourth album! "What we've started has been sounding very different, very weird." Nick Valensi told Planet Sound. "They're nothing like what Strokes songs sound like." Valensi added. "We've got a couple of songs, none of them ready enough for us to test live yet and none of them have titles just yet. Maybe by the festival we'll be able to throw something in." Brrrrrrrilliant!!!

It looks like Kylie Minogue's battle with the cancer has already got a winner: the singer herself. As first sign that her recovery from breast cancer is going well, her hair is beginning to grow back. Kylie used to cover her baldness with headscarves no matter where she was going. Now, even if she still uses the scarves, she is now often taking them off in private to reveal her new short, straight, spiky hair. Aaawww... "Kylie is not at all vain and understood why she lost her hair - but that has made its return all the sweeter. She had been told it might grow back curlier, as happens with some patients after chemo, so she's delighted that it's so straight. She's been through so much it feels a breath of fresh air to think about things like her hair again," a close friend said. Kylie has completed her last course of radiotherapy just nine days ago. Ain't that sweet.

Ooooh, there's a new celebrity admirer of Craig Bond. Nicole Kidman is the latest celeb to defend the new bond after he received a barrage of criticism from 007 fans. Dame Judi Dench and Pierce Brosnan rallied round after hearing Craig had been the subject of hate emails from Brosnan fans. And Kidman has joined the united front to tell audiences how lucky they are to have "the best actor in England" playing Bond. She says, "I think Daniel will be great in Casino Royale. He is such an accomplished actor. "Stephen Daldry, who directed me in The Hours, said to me, 'He is the best actor in England, and if you get a chance to work with him, do it.'" But then, he doesn't cut the mustard being the next superspy.

Crazy Chick is finally smoke-free! Charlotte has quit smoking and admitted that the 25-a-day habit affected her voice. She gave up the habit on New Year's Day and has now urged others to do the same to mark No Smoking Day today, saying smoking "looks disgusting". The star said: "I smoked about 20 or 25 a day and I'd tried to give up a couple of times before but only lasted half a day. I decided to make it my New Year's resolution, I just wanted to. In the last four or five months before I gave up it was affecting my voice, my breathing control, my tone, and I thought 'what am I doing here?' "Now that I've stopped it's got so much better. The first two weeks were tough, (and) the first month I still really missed it, but I feel so much healthier now and can really feel the difference in my voice." Good for her.

The Who's Pete Townshend has branded Pete Doherty "the ultimate rock 'n' roll nihilist". The former hell raiser said Doherty and Katy should get help if their problems spiral out of control. "Peter Doherty is the ultimate rock 'n' roll nihilist," said Townshend. "It is important we acknowledge that this business loves to kill people. But I don't worry about him. Maybe it's not as bad as it looks. "I don't know Pete but I know Kate quite well, and I think they know how to get help when they need it." Nice to see an icon like him giving the proper acknowledgement to the confused babyshambles front man. Do the press follow rock stars so closely back then in the 60s?

Pete Doherty is recovering from his heartbreak situation by being close with troubled actress Emily Lloyd. "Pete dotes on Emily - he loves her films," a source said. "They just click as they've both had their fair share of troubles. But some of Emily's pals are telling her to stay well clear of Pete. She's trying to sort herself out - and he's nothing but big trouble." Hmmm..troubled souls unite better? Anyways, Pete is making "positive progress" in his fight against drug addiction, a court has heard. One month into a drug rehabilitation programme the star's "determination was increasing" to come off illegal substances, Thames Magistrates' Court was told. The "positive progress" report came in spite of Pete testing positive for drugs in his first month of the order. Did Emily help out in any way?

A new tool offers to create websites on any subject, allowing web surfers to sit back, relax and watch a virtual space automatically fill up with relevant news stories, blog posts, maps and photos. The website asks its users to come up with any subject they are interested in, such as a TV show, sports team or news topic, and to submit links to their five favourite news articles, blogs or photos on that subject. Working only from this data, the site then automatically creates a webpage on that topic, known as a Boxxet. The name derives from "box set", which refers to a complete set CDs or DVDs from the same band or TV show. The site's algorithm starts by reading through the web pages submitted by the user. It calculates the frequency of unique words and which words these unique words are likely to be adjacent to. It also notes the number of images and which news organisation or blogger created those pages. It uses this data to filter its index of web pages and RSS feeds, depositing anything highly relevant in the Boxxet. The Boxxet is constantly updated as new stories appear, and the type of information is also modified by ratings provided by new visitors to the site.

Boxxet's creator You Mon Tsang says that websites reliant on user-generated content such as blogs and collaborative bookmarking sites are facing a new problem: how to sustain a continuous flow of new information as the small pool of people that actually bother to post information gets spread increasingly thinly. The new system solves this problem by amplifying what participation it does get, while actually requiring relatively little user input, Tsang says. "We are trying to survive on much less participation because we don't think there is much to go around," he explains. Tsang launched the site at the O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference in San Diego. "It's a very sweet combination of spidering and other automatic assembly of content on the fly," says Tim O'Reilly. "There have been a lot of approaches to making personalized pages, but none of them put all the pieces together in the way that Boxxet has." The tool will first be available by invitation only, opening to the general public by the end of April 2006.
